What it is
Osteoarthritis happens when the cartilage that cushions a joint wears thin. The joint gets stiff, especially in the morning or after sitting, and it can ache after activity or when the weather changes.
It's the most common kind of arthritis. It often gets in the way of everyday things: stairs, gardening, getting up from a low chair, picking up a grandchild.
