Neck, back and shoulder pain after a collision, including whiplash, which can start days after the accident.

What it is
In a collision your head and body are thrown forward and back faster than your muscles can react. The muscles and ligaments of the neck and upper back are stretched and strained. This is often called whiplash.
Pain and stiffness may not start until a day or two later. Headaches, trouble turning your head and aching between the shoulder blades are common.
If you've been in an accident, see a doctor first to rule out a fracture or other serious injury.
How TECAR helps
- 1
In the first days after an accident, your practitioner uses a low setting that doesn't heat the tissue. Once the injury has settled, they use more warmth to relax the muscles that have tightened to protect your neck and back.
- 2
Most patients have TECAR alongside chiropractic care, massage or physical therapy. Ask the clinic whether they can bill your auto insurance.
What to expect
- Session length
- 20 to 30 minutes
- How often
- 2 or 3 times a week at first
- What you'll feel
- Gentle warmth across the neck and upper back

How many sessions
Most people have 8 to 12 sessions over 4 to 8 weeks.

One patient's story
“After the accident my neck was stiff every morning and I had a headache by lunch. TECAR was the first treatment that made a real difference.”
I was stopped at a light on I-45 when a pickup hit me from behind. The emergency room said nothing was broken and sent me home with muscle relaxers. Two weeks later my neck still hurt every morning, I couldn't turn to check my blind spot, and I had a headache most afternoons.
