What it is
Most lower back pain comes from the muscles, ligaments and small joints around the spine. Lifting, long hours in a chair, a sudden twist or years of wear can all set it off.
It can feel like a dull ache that never quite leaves, a tight band across the hips, or a sharp catch when you stand up. Many people find mornings and long drives the hardest.
How TECAR helps
- 1
TECAR warms the deep muscles that run beside the spine and the ligaments around the joints. Warm muscle relaxes, and more blood reaches the area.
- 2
Your practitioner usually starts with the flat CET head across the lower back to loosen the muscle. Then they use the metal RET head over the joints and the top of the pelvis, where the pain often sits deeper.
- 3
Many clinics follow TECAR with an adjustment, massage or exercises. These tend to be more comfortable once the muscles have relaxed.
What to expect
- Session length
- 20 to 30 minutes
- How often
- Twice a week to start
- What you'll feel
- Steady warmth across the lower back, and looser muscles when you stand up
- Often paired with
- Chiropractic adjustment, massage or exercises
How many sessions
Most people have 6 to 10 sessions. A recent strain may need fewer. Pain you've had for months or years often needs 10 or more.

One patient's story
“I'd been taking ibuprofen most days for two years. After the third session I could tie my shoes without bracing myself on the bed. Now I take something maybe once a week.”
